This beautiful handmade necklace has been created from black basalt cobblestones that used to be part of the road on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.  It would make a very thoughtful gift for someone that loves Edinburgh and is a completely unique piece of jewellery.  
 
Edinburgh's world famous Royal Mile runs from Edinburgh Castle down to Holyrood Palace.  Recently the pavements have been widened and the cobblestone lifted and relaid.  The left over cobblestone were saved and cut and polished to create cabochons which I have then used in a limited jewellery collection.  
 
This necklace has a little silver flower and leaves sitting just below the corner of the cobblestone which has been set in recycled sterling silver.  I have created a few links of a cobblestone shaped chain which then leads into a plain chain which fastens with a handmade toggle clasp.  The silver of the little flower has been darkened which looks beautiful against the black basalt cobblestone.  
 
The Edinburgh Assay Office has hallmarked this cobblestone necklace.
 
The dimensions of the necklace are 35 x 25 mm (including the flower) and the chain length is 18 inches.
